Missions Trips
|
Looking for a mission trip idea for the summer? Our missionary family who was originally in Y*men has been reassigned to Dearborn, MI. When asked what kind of things they need volunteers to do, they listed the message below.
Blessings,
Dee Thomas
. . . Crafts and games in the Park during the summer. That is just one example of something that you may be interested in Helping with up here in Dearborn. We also have friends that organize a lot of Cross Cultural opportunities between Arabs and Americans. The next one is on February 11th Some Christian Arabs will tell the Men and Women separately about Valentine's Day and the Love of God through Jesus. If you have any Arabic understanding and/ or any Arabs friends that would be willing to come (maybe with you) please let us know ASAP. There will also be a kids program going on at the same time so you may be interested in helping with that?! There will be many more of these events scattered throughout the year so keep these in mind. I am also pursuing some different places to teach Adobe Photoshop. Please Pray that some of these will work out. Amy is also getting to know ladies and enjoying that and has just talked with the boys schools about volunteering to help kids read English better. The Schools are very interesting they are 95% plus Arab mostly Yemeni and they are still in the American School system so they teach all in English and have sports and Band and everything other schools have. I (Jason) may even help teach a Photography section of a course at Matthew's school. I also am going to start teaching English on Thursday Evenings to Arabs through a Center here in Dearborn. We feel like it is a lot like Yemen, in that, if you have a skill and a little time we can probably find a way to plug you in to helping with something and spending some time and helping us with helping the Yemeni Community. I am working with "Impact International" for this year and they strive to "cross cultures for Community Assistance" They have been involved in helping with the "Annual Arab Festival" that is held over Father's Day weekend. THAT is ALSO a great way to come get involved here. You can volunteer for any or everything that it takes to put on a HUGE street festival. Now there are some people that come and help set up chairs and serve in other ways and get to visit families they have gotten to know over the years of helping with this Festival. I know this article and this info is "scattered" I apologize for that I just need/want to get the info out there so people can be thinking and Praying about it. If I waited until it was all nice and pretty and organized it may never get written. I CAN help you individually understand what is going on here and I would LOVE to do that. let me know. Please write some comments! I promise to keep these Articles short if you promise to write comments and keep this communication two-way.
Thanks!

Mission Trip Opportunities Jan 2012
Haiti
UBA will have two mission trips to Haiti this year. The need is still great. Both of these trips will be medical. We need medical personnel. Although not required, it would be great to have doctors, nurses, EMT’s, pharmacists, and other persons in the medical field. We also need non medical people who can assist with things like chaplaincy, errands, or playing with children. We will be working with two Haitian doctors who will organize and lead the medical team. There is a tremendous potential for personal witnessing in the clinics. Interpreters will be provided.
We will stay in a comfortable and secure mission house. We will eat American food cooked by a wonderful North Carolina hostess. The price of $1,100 is all inclusive. It includes airfare, food, lodging, and insurance. You may want to bring a little cash for souvenirs or gifts and gratuities. The payments are $500 for registration and the remaining $600 sixty days before departure.
Dates: April 15-21 is already filled but November 21-27 is still available.
Peru
The Peru trip is for construction and evangelization. You can help construct a school for ministry and your work and legacy will live on for generations. There is also opportunity for personal evangelism and seeing a beautiful part of the world. There are two teams on consecutive weeks. If you so desire team A can stay on another week with team B.
This mission trip is planned for, Team A), August 25th to September 1st and Team B) September 1st to September 8th with a third option of 11 days. We will leave Charlotte and arrive in Lima Peru; then fly to Ayacucho, a beautiful mountainside established community with its fair share of poverty. This is where we are to be involved with assisting to build a facility for pastors and missionaries to stay while in Ayacucho and evangelize in the mountain villages. This will be a Life Changing Experience! We will be sharing the gospel of our Great Savior Jesus all the way.
Guatemala
Guatemala is a wonderful place for missions. The need is so great and there is so much to do. UBA has already done four mission trips to Guatemala City for ministry and construction. The next trip is still in the planning stage. It is expected to be in October depending on the needs of the mission organization. The mission organization, Hearts for Heaven, has feeding stations which feed hundreds of children every week, does food distribution, disaster relief, and prepares bible school materials for churches all over Guatemala. The mission house is the home of the missionary and is very comfortable. The cost of the trip will be about $1,400, more or less, depending on the cost of air travel. This price will include air travel, lodging, food, insurance and other miscellaneous expenses. You may need a little cash for souvenirs, entertainment, and gratuities. We are limited to eight participants. In the past we have had some churches to form the whole team. If you would like to make this a church wide project for your church please reserve positions soon.
South Africa
This two week trip is under consideration. We are surveying to see if there is enough interest before moving on with the planning. This will be for pastors only. It would involve pairing with seminary students and going out to tribal churches to preach on two consecutive Sundays. The week between will be spent at Cape Town Baptist Seminary teaching and consulting with students. Although more definite plans will be made before enrollment, it is hoped that the last few days will involve touring and seeing some of the most beautiful country and sea between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. There will be up to five participants.
For information on any of these mission trips please call the Union Baptist Association Office at (704) 283-8383. For updated information see our mission web site at www.ubatrips.com.
Japan 2012.
It may be next year by the time we will be able to go to Japan. Search and Rescue as well as parts of the infrastructure must be completed. Then arrangements for accommodations must be made. In the meantime arrangements must be made for financing this trip. Churches and individuals can make it possible for a team to go through tax deductible contributions to Union Baptist Association Japan Fund. Please pray for Japan and about your participation in our role in Japanese relief. Price and exact dates are yet to be determined. If you would like more information as it becomes available please call 704-283-8383.
Looking Ahead—Operation InAsMuch 2012. Please put April 28 and March 5, 2012 on your calendar for Operation InAsMuch. On either or both of those dates Churches all over the state will be doing mission assistance projects in their own communities. It is desired that each church will have an OIAM coordinator for churchwide coordination of projects.

Ayacucho Construction Project 2012 (Help Build the Bible Belt in Ayacucho Peru)
To provide a place for Quechan Pastors to lodge and learn the word of God.
This project is for the people who speak Quechua of Ayacucho (over one million) Let’s continue the work of a Martyr Romulo Saune; translated the Bible in Ayacucho Quechua and it was printed by the Peruvian Bible Society and dedicated in 1987.
I consider these words from scripture when I think of Romulo. John 15:12-13 My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
Cost first floor $ 7,604.67 To build common area
Cost second floor $ 8,985.41 To build 7 bedrooms
PROJECT OVERVIEW
Pastor Samuel and Rosa Saccsara need a facility in Ayacucho, Peru to provide a place to stay while training Quechua Pastors to learn to read the Bible. Currently there is no facility to accommodate this and the Pastors do not have the funds to pay rent. Land is available, the project has been scoped, a construction team is available to do construction and we are asking you to help provide the funding to make this a reality. Some have prayed many years for this. I have plans bill of material and further details of scope available upon request. This will be a great step for the Quechua People some 20 million strong. Pray for God’s blessing on this.
Send tax deductable gift to: Euto Baptist Church, Designate for Peru Mission 2012 Project.

APPALACHIAN MISSION OPPORTUNITIES
Appalachian Regional Ministries is part of the Adult Volunteer Mobilization Team at the North American Mission Board. They promote mission projects throughout Appalachia from Alabama through New York. A.R.M. focuses on spiritual needs, poverty needs, and mission needs of the Appalachian population. Whatever talents or gifts your church may have, you can be used of God through this ministry.
Jim and Doris Keller live in Union County and are Regional Coordinators for Appalachian Regional Ministries. I have met with them and find them to be a wonderful couple to work with and they are abounding in ways that a church or individual can minister to people in this poverty stricken environment. They are members of one of the churches in our association and are available to share this ministry in any of our churches.
If you would like to discuss this ministry with me personally, please feel free to call me at the Missions Resource Center 704-283-8383 or email Jim and Doris at kellersarm@gmail.com. It will be worth your time to check out the A.R.M. website at www.arministry.org.
